Projects & Clients: Alaska Department of Education and Early Development

Current Projects | Case Histories

Alaska policy makers have called for design of a school rating system, which is to be coordinated with a HS accountability system and implemented by 2003.

The Center for Assessment has been contracted to assist the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development in designing a school rating system that meets the requirements of the legislation passed in 2000 and meets them in an educationally appropriate and technically sound way.

Special concerns include identifying indicators that can be feasibly collected and used, and dealing with large numbers of very small, rural schools that often serve primarily native communities. An additional issue is that the school rating system should be integrated with the high school student accountability system that is being implemented over the next several years.
