Projects & Clients: Case Histories:
Success Story No. 2 : Support of a Successful Technical Advisory Committee
The Center is involved in the Technical Advisory Committees for over a dozen states. The role of the Center staff ranges from providing advice as one of several members, to working closely with the state department of education to set the TAC agenda, ensure needed information is generated and organized, facilitating the TAC meetings, and following up on decisions and actions items.
Success Story No. 2: The New England Common Assessment Program's Technical Advisory Committee
The Center works closely with New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont to ensure they get timely and relevant technical advice to direct their common assessment program.
The Problem/Issue
The NECAP assessment program needed to establish the technical soundness as a new assessment program in 2005. This included standard setting to make sense of the three states' previously tested grades, reporting formats to meet each states' unique needs, and support to meet the NCLB Peer Review Standards and Assessments.
What the Center Did
The Center coordinated between the states, their TACs, and the contractor.
- Advised states on TAC member recruitment
- Framed standard-setting issues and analyses for TAC and contractor
- Facilitated TAC consideration of common core reporting with custom extensions
- Supported consideration by TAC of Technical Report, including special populations in assessment
Successful Outcomes
Smooth administration and reporting of new assessment program, with significant cost saving for each of the states. Widespread support for new assessment program. Approved peer review for common portions of assessment program reviewed by NECAP TAC. |
