Projects & Clients: Louisiana Department of Education

Current Projects | Case Histories

In 1997 Louisiana enacted sweeping reform of the state's educational system known as LEAP 21. The reforms mandated statewide assessment tests and an accountability system that significantly raised expectations for achievement.

Faced with the challenge of LEAP 21, the Louisiana Department of Education hired the Center for Assessment to assist them with their accountability system. The Center provided technical guidance on the design and implementation of the K-8 and 9-12 accountability systems.

The Center's work for Louisiana resulted in the following materials:

  • Recommendations Regarding the Louisiana School Accountability System
  • Analyses and policy papers to inform Department and Board decisions
  • Standard setting for the LEAP 21 assessments
  • The Louisiana Accountability Administrative Manual
  • Student Work Illustrating LEAP's Achievement Levels
(grades 4 and 8 English language arts and mathematics)
  • Student Work from the LEAP 21 Assessment 1998-99 and 1999-2000, highlighting English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies

The Center continues to work with Louisiana to develop and implement their accountability system.
