School Accountability in Flux: Results from a National Survey

The pandemic has changed the accountability landscape. States are experiencing different challenges as they restart their ESSA accountability in 2022. To better understand the impact of the pandemic on states’ accountability systems and the changes they are making to their accountability plans, we conducted a national survey during April and May 2022.  Our high-level findings were:

  1. Most state are coping with data challenges
  2. Most aspects of accountability systems are changing
  3. Outcomes and identifications have different meaning for 2021-22
  4. It will be necessary to interpret impact data (results) with caution

Additional details and a summary of all findings are presented in this slide deck.
