A Discussion of "Increasing Text Complexity"

This article was produced in partnership with the NH, RI, and VT Departments of Education in support of the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP). The research for this article goes beyond the typical readability formulas used in test and text book development. Factors that influence increasing text complexity are identified and text descriptors for grades 1 through high school help to illustrate these factors.
