Strategies for High School Accountability: A Response to Marion

This transcript of Linda Mabry’s response as a discussant to the 2005 RILS presentation by Scott Marion sparked a lively discussion. It raises the questions of goals and impacts–whether we are asking for the impossible?; who should be accountable for what–what accountability is educationally sound and what is a sign of pathology in the educational system?; and representation and misrepresentation–what are the limits on our current systems of portraying schools and students, and what are the cultural assumptions and consequences of doing so?
