Center for Assessment Announces New Leadership Team

Sep 18, 2025

Dr. Chris Domaleski is the new executive director of the Center for Assessment, the Center announced Thursday.

Dr. Scott Marion stepped down as executive director, a post he’s held since 2015. He will continue to play a vital role at the Center with a new title: principal learning associate. This transition will allow Marion to dedicate more time to the work he finds most rewarding: writing, research, and working with states and districts to help advance assessment and accountability systems.

The Center’s Board of Trustees appointed Domaleski as the executive director; he had been associate director for 10 years. Domaleski named Drs. Juan D’Brot and Carla Evans, senior associates at the Center, as the Center’s new associate directors.

Dr. Henry Braun, chairman of the Center’s Board of Trustees, thanked Marion for his nearly 20 years of leadership to the Center and said he is thrilled that Domaleski, D’Brot and Evans have assumed the helm.

“I can’t think of a better trio to lead the Center,” said Braun. “This move is the product of thoughtful succession planning and sets us up for continued success as we near our 30th anniversary, securing a stable, productive future for the Center.”

“Stepping into this role is both an honor and a responsibility,” Domaleski said. “I’m grateful to Scott Marion and those before him for building such a strong foundation. I’m equally grateful to be part of a team whose expertise and commitment to student learning are unmatched. The Center’s mission has never been more important, and I’m excited for the next chapter.”

“Leading the Center for the past 10 years has been the most rewarding professional experience of my life,” Marion said. “It is equally rewarding to turn the reins over to such a capable team. Chris, Juan, and Carla are exactly the right stewards for the next phase of the Center’s assessment and accountability leadership. I am excited to transition to a new role at the Center and continue to be part of this amazing team of professionals.”
