Academic Growth: Recommendations for the Senate HELP Committee

The Center’s Response to a Request for Information

The Center for Assessment responded to a request for information (RFI) from U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, on school-level academic growth indicators that can inform parents and policymakers.

Drawing on more than two decades of experience with academic growth, the RFI response outlines the Center’s recommendations for developing and reporting growth measures that are technically sound, aligned to clear purposes, and communicated in ways that support accurate interpretation and use. The Center’s response also provides suggestions for the federal role in supporting improved practice.
