The Marginal Utility of Interim Assessments for Prediction

One key selling point for interim, or benchmark, assessments is that their scores are generally highly predictive of scores on large-scale summative assessments. Using district wide data in sixth grade mathematics, this study shows that prediction is a relatively low bar to use in evaluating the utility of interim assessments and that other criteria should be considered.
